How We Make Our Salt Water Taffy the Old Fashioned Way
Since 1946, Hill-Top Candy has been making new england salt water taffy the old fashioned way. First, the finest ingredients are cooked in a copper kettle atop a special gas fired stove. The salt water taffy is then cooled on our custom-made cooling tables before being rolled by our cooks to craft the special stripes and color displays for which Hill-Top is known.
The batch is split into two pieces and placed on our puller machine to stretch the salt water taffy. Then it is back to the cooling table for a few seconds before the salt water taffy is shaped by hand to feed our antique Model K taffy machine. This machine cuts the salt water taffy into bite size pieces and wraps the taffy with a unique twist you will not see from modern machines.
The fresh salt water taffy is then boxed for shipment that day, to the finest candy shoppes in New England; and now to consumers nation-wide, compliments of our new online candy store. Over 40 famous flavours on our menu, you are sure to find several that you will love.
